Ning to support geography departments taking part in the BBC News School Report

Choosing pupils for the BBC News School Report project

Which year group are you thinking of involving?

What are the benefits/challenges of choosing Y7 versus Y9?

Will you try to involve a whole year group (ambitious) or will you choose a small group (more practical)?

How will you choose?

We will probably base the decision on class groups based on the teachers who want to be involved. It is likely to be Year 8 and some Year 9s. I personally will use my Year 8groups.

I think i will use Year 9 as they have the background of the KS3 curriculum they have covered so far to stimulate work. I will probably focus on the two classes i teach initially, much depends on whether other staff want to get involved, i suspect some will. Will also prob run it as part of our geographical society and open it all interested pupils.
All best

We discused this and we will propably choose mixed groups 7,8 and 9 as after school club for 'gifted and talented'. What is minumum or maximum group?

There is no minimum or maximum group size - you are free to involve a small group or a whole year group. What is important is the end product - we want to see some good geography showcased! Good luck, keep us informed of your progress.

My fantastic year 7 geoclub group are busily planning for a variety of videos including reports on Fairtrade and our school links in Lesotho and China. They are going to work with a representitive from BBC Wales, but they have not yet contacted us.
